Hades: Persephone in the Land of the Dead

Another sneak peek of a page from the upcoming Olympians Book 4, Hades. The Lord of the Dead is giving his bride-to-be a tour of what will be her kingdom. They're wandering through the Fields of Asphodel, where the anonymous shades dwell, when Persephone encounters the Fates (in their aspect as the Furies). They deliver a warning unto her" Whoever eats the food of the dead must remain in the Land of the Dead."

  1. You know what would be great. A kids colouring book with each main characters.

    Like the samples :)

  2. Mr. Neufeld, that's a pretty great idea. What does everyone else think?

In the meantime, we do have some downloadable and colorable masks of the gods at http://olympiansrule.com/activities/zeusTheatre.html and http://olympiansrule.com/activities/athenaTheatre.html

  5. Positive: Absolutely love your work! Highly looking forward to Hades. Negative: We need to wait until July for Hera.
Positive: Love greek mythology and love comic books and your books are awesome.
Negative: Book 10 - Hermes. I don't think I can wait that long. Hermes is one of my favorites and Book 10 sounds like a long way off. I need Hermes pictures now.
Positive: A Big Thank You for doing a great job. I just need to keep reading Zeus and Athena again and again until Hera. I hate waiting.

  6. Here's some good news- despite what it says in Amazon, Hera will supposedly be out in April. Sooner!

Hermes is my favorite god, and I purposely put him later in the series to spread out my favorites and keep me (and others) interested, Don't worry, he okays a big part in Hades in the meantime.

Thanks fro all the kind words!

  7. I am very happy to hear that Hera's release is in April. Now may I ask you a question? You said your favorite is Hermes but, who is your least favorite and why? I am just curious to know. Thank for your time.

  8. Well, Hermes is my favorite god, but Hera is my favorite goddess. I don't think I have a least favorite, at least not one I can say, for fear of being struck down from above ;)

  9. I promise to stop bugging you, but I am curious to know why Hera is your favorite goddess? And also can you please tell me what order the Olympians books will be coming out? Thanks!

  10. It's a long story as to why Hera is my favorite goddess, one that I will probably do a post about one day, but the short version is she gets a bad rap. Sure, she persecuted many of Zeus's children and lovers, but that's because ZEUS CHEATED ALL THE TIME! While I researched Hera I learned a lot more about her and felt that she needed to have her side of the story heard more. I guess I like the underdog.

The exact order of the Olympians series will also be a future post soon, but I'm pretty sure a careful reading of all of my various comments throughout this blog will reveal the order of all 12.

  13. I thought the Fates were the daughters of Themis and Zeus, not born from the blood of Ouranos. You are thinking about the Furies (beasts with snakes for hair, bird claws, wings, bleedy eyes, fangs, wrinkly skin, and a taste for human blood)

    1. Very astute! Yeah, I deliberately conflated the Furies with the Fates. A few other people have drawn the connection between the two, and I decided to add it into Olympians as part of my own twist on my own retelling. There were a lot of different accounts of the parentage of the Fates, but the Zeus and Themis version always bugged me. Even Zeus is bound to the laws of Fate, but they're his kids? I prefer a more primordial origin for them. Athenaeus and Lykophron bot state Gaea as their mother, so I went with that.
