Warm-up drawing: The Apple of Discord

Todays' warm-up topic was "apple" so I drew the Golden Apple of Eris.

As you all of course know, Eris was the goddess of Discord, who, miffed at not being invited to a wedding, showed up anyway and threw her golden apple to the ground, shouting "To the fairest". Now this was a pretty fancy wedding, so many of the Olympians were present. I chose to depict the exact awkward moment when Hera, Athena and Aphrodite, each believing themselves to be the fairest of them all, all simultaneously reached for the Golden Apple of Discord. One thing leads to another, and this little incident eventually lead to the Trojan War and the more-or-less complete destruction of the race of Heroes.

  2. Mr. O'Connor, i was wondering how many books you were going to do because you did say 1 book for each Olympian but Hades is not an Olympian and neither is Hestia so are you going to do 14 books? I'm a huge fan btw.

  3. Thanks everybody.

You've got a point, Anonymous. Olympians will be twelve books-- I've definitely cheated a bit with Hades, who though a great god, is not an Olympian, living as he does in the Underworld. Technically he's taking the slot of Demeter, but when you read the book you'll see that she has costar status. It will be the same with book 12, which will be named after Dionysos and will costar Hestia. It comes down to marketing, I guess, in that Hades and Dionysos are "bigger names",so they get the title nods.

  5. Will Lycaon appear in any of the books? or what about Pan and the satyrs or Chiron and the centaurs?

  6. You'll get your first glimpse of centaurs in Olympians Book 3, Hera: The Goddess and her Glory, and I have some big plans for Pan and the Satyrs in future volumes. Unfortunately, I don't have any plans for Lycaeon right now, largely due to his story's similarities to that of Tantalus, who plays a pretty biggish role in Olympians Book 4, Hades: Lord of the Dead. Maybe I'll be able to sneak in his insane murder plot of Zeus in a later volume as a mention...

  8. Are you going to talk about Eris in Ares: Lord of War, in Aphrodite: Goddess of Love or in Hephaistos: Blacksmith of the Gods?

    1. Eris plays a big role in the recently competed Aphrodite: Goddess of Love. I enjoyed her so much that I'll probably stick her in Ares as well.

    2. What about Enyo, the goddess of blood, daughter of Zeus and Hera, and the sister of Hephaistos, Ares, Hebe, and Eris.
And what about Eileithyia the goddess of childbirth and Enyo's younger sister
